Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Yoga POC Sangha is a grassroots organization invested in the healing, empowerment and liberation of Black, Indigenous, ChicanX/LatinX, Asian/API, Desi, and all people of color by providing intersectional, relational, and accessible, trauma informed, healing spaces, and health and wellness practices. Yoga POC Sangha is politically invested in the spiritual, physical, mentoal and emotional healing of past, present, and ancestral colonial and imperial violence such as white supreamacy, racism, capitalist exploitation, casteism, gendered violence, heterosexism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, sexual violence, agesim, and ableism. Yoga POC Sangha was founded immediately after the election of November 2016 with the anticipation that people of color will need spaces of community healing and rest.
We collaboratively organize intentional, safe and life-affirming gatherings for self-identified black people, Indigenous people, and people of color in Albuquerque, New Mexico to practice yoga and meditation. Through yoga and meditation, and other health gatherings we coordinate, we are dedicated to providing holistic strategies that support the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual wellness of our communities that are and that have been historically marginalized and devalued. Our gatherings have themes in meditation and yoga philosophies that are especially informed by black, Indigenous and people of color practitioners of yoga and meditation; preventative and coping strategies for anxiety, depression, and recovery; aromatherapy, energy balancing, movement, and breath; nutrition, sustainable food, farming, gardening and recycling; critical literacy building and learning of diverse philosophies informed by radical intellectuals of color; and individual and community healing, accountability and responsibility. Overall, our social justice mission is to empower and liberate black people, Indigenous people, and people of color by providing accessible healing spaces, and health and wellness practices.
